Expectation. Preparation. Anticipation. Hope. Longing. And then, Good News!
We have all gone through the process of waiting for something yearned for. It is no different now than it was in days past. Today, as is then, there is the hunger for good news. And finally it arrives - Christ is Coming!
Advent – the season where the we prepare not just for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, but also for Christ’s second coming, as we remember how our Lord comes to us in our daily lives.
The Lay Academy presents CONNECTING CONVERSATIONS: THE ARRIVAL “Our Bishops on Advent”
Join Bishop Sid Haugen of the SK Synod, Bishop Larry Kochendorfer of the AB & Territories Synod, Bishop Elaine Sauer of the MNO Synod, and Bishop Greg Mohr of the BC Synod, as they discuss the Advent texts and help us to ‘get ready and remember’. Our four Bishops of the Western Synod will be conversing together with us and one another on the Readings of Advent. Mark your calendars for November 18th and 25th and save the dates! It will be a time of illuminating insights, learnings, dialogue and more. Bring your Bible and rediscover “The Arrival” again.

2018 MNO Synod Convention News
Dear Retired Rostered Ministers:
MNO Synod Bylaws Part V, Section 3c makes provision for retired rostered ministers to comprise up to 10% of all rostered delegates to a synod convention. As per Part V Section 3B, rostered ministers are defined as those under call or appointment or on leave from call. At the present time there are no retirees under call or appointment or on leave from call by the synod bishop so none are therefore eligible for the active roster of delegates to a synod convention.
However, as per the Retired Rostered Ministers convention delegate protocols, you are eligible under the 10% caucus of retirees. Rostered Retired Ministers are elected by their peers through a nomination and balloting process. This letter is a call for nominations of retired rostered delegate positions to the 2018 MNO Synod Convention.
Retired Rostered ministers willing to serve as delegates must indicate so in writing or by electronic messaging to the MNO Synod Office no later than five months prior to the opening of convention. The next MNO Synod Convention will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, April 26-28, 2018. It is therefore important for you to notify the synod office no later than Nov 25, 2017 your intention to let your name stand in nominations for the Retirees delegate Caucus at the 2018 convention.
After nominations have closed on Nov. 25, the secretary of the synod shall prepare a ballot listing all those who have indicated a willingness to serve as a delegate. The ballot shall state that electors may cast multiple votes on the same ballot, with the number of votes equal to the number of delegate positions. Ballots shall be sent to retirees no later than 90 days prior to the opening of convention, Jan 26, 2018. Balloting will close 60 days prior to the opening of convention, Feb 26, 2018. Successful delegates will be notified by the synod office and results will be posted on the synod website.
We thank you for your interest in the work of the synod and the ministry that occurs through our biennial convention and look forward to your participation in this balloting process. There will be an election of a new bishop at the 2018 convention, so we expect some great movement of the Spirit among us.
Yours in Christ
Rev. Carol Janke
Secretary of the MNO Synod

Images for ELCIC Worship Bulletin Covers
In Mission for Others. This theme of the ELCIC invites us to look out into our communities and see the people around us, loving our neighbours as ourselves. The ELCIC Program Committee for Worship (PCW) is putting out a call for images of doors and windows that look out and see in, evoking this mission that we all share across the church, to be used on worship bulletin covers for the 2017-2018 liturgical year.
The images can be of doors and windows of any sort. Doors are thresholds of welcome to invite people in. Windows see into the lives of our neighbors and inspire us to reach out. Images of doors and windows that invite us into the light, into contemplation of stability and beauty, and into transition and change are all welcome.
Please send images attached to an email to BulletinPictures@gmail.com indicating the PHOTOGRAPHER who took the image and the LOCATION where the picture was taken. Tell the STORY: say something about why you took the image. Include the name of the congregation if appropriate. The PCW has asked David Solheim, who prepared the current bulletin series, to select and prepare the set of images for the bulletin covers again for 2017-2018.
Since the bulletin covers require a square image (like Instagram), Dave will crop your image as needed. Dave says that, from a practical point of view, any jpeg (.jpg) image that is 2.6 MB or more in size can work.
Please continue to send images for the second half until April 4, 2018.
