- Clergy Residence Deductions -
To Rostered Ministers and Congregational Treasurers:

If a Rostered Minister knows that they will be claiming their residence as a deduction when they file their tax return, they may wish to reduce the amounts withheld from their pay each month, as they anticipate that it will be refunded.  In order to reduce the withholdings the Rostered Minister will need to file a T1213 annually.  Note that the T1213 lists several possible deductions; clergy residence is at the top of the second page. Please advise them to enter the amount and attach a copy of their previous year’s T1223 Clergy Residence Deduction form to CRA.

Treasurers:  Do not reduce the withholdings until you have the Letter of Authority from CRA.

It is recommended that the T1213 be filed by November to allow sufficient time for CRA to issue the Letter of Authority for the following year.  Please note that filing the T1213 is not mandatory, and if not completed, the pay withholdings should not be reduced and the employee may get a refund accordingly when they file their return with a T1223 Clergy Residence Deduction form.

Accessibility Act (Manitoba)
The Province of Manitoba is requiring that non-profit organizations fulfill the Accessibility Standard in customer service by November 1, 2018. MNO Synod and Diocese of Rupert's Land are looking at making a learning event available in early-2018, with follow-up resources available afterwards. Please look into it for your local congregation - see their website.

Submission Guidelines for MNO Synod Newsletter

News items should include the following:

• location, date, time

• link to your community's website (where readers can find more information)

Please submit by 9am on Wednesday; newsletter is assembled and sent Wed aft.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us to make this a user friendly e-newsletter!

Our Synod office had a sewer backup occur the week of Sept, 25. Due to clean up and then ongoing renovations the synod office lower meeting room will not be available for meetings through to the end of December.  Synod staff will be in contact with you or post in subsequent e-news where meetings have been moved to a different site.
Sadly, due to the restoration work in our lower level, we must ‘fore-go’ the Synod Advent Open House this year.  We may do something in the New Year.
