Christmas Greeting from Bishop Elaine - click here
Post-surgery message from Bishop Elaine:
My surgery went well, with no complications so far. I was discharged from the hospital on Saturday just before noon and then spent most of my afternoon recuperating by sleeping the day away. It takes much energy and effort to shower, dress, ride in a car and travel an elevator, apparently. lol
My exercise regime is going well, mostly due to the extra pre-op physio I did, for which I am extremely thankful.
Today I will have my first "get out of jail free card" and travel to have supper with my granddaughters, which is always a blessing.
I am doing well with steps so am able to go back to my own condo on Friday, which is very exciting. Christmas eve gift opening comes early to the Sauers this year as we celebrate on Dec 22nd. So it will be good to be in my own home while we celebrate together.
I am very thankful for all of the prayers and gifts of time in visits and errands on my behalf. I seem to have a very large "village" provided by God and that has made a difference in my healing and recovery.  Thanks to all of you for picking up the slack as I prepped to do this medical leave. You are very much appreciated.
Peace, love  and joy for Advent and Christmas celebrations,
+Elaine

- Clergy Residence Deductions -
To Rostered Ministers and Congregational Treasurers:

If a Rostered Minister knows that they will be claiming their residence as a deduction when they file their tax return, they may wish to reduce the amounts withheld from their pay each month, as they anticipate that it will be refunded.  In order to reduce the withholdings the Rostered Minister will need to file a T1213 annually.  Note that the T1213 lists several possible deductions; clergy residence is at the top of the second page. Please advise them to enter the amount and attach a copy of their previous year’s T1223 Clergy Residence Deduction form to CRA.

Treasurers:  Do not reduce the withholdings until you have the Letter of Authority from CRA.

It is recommended that the T1213 be filed by November to allow sufficient time for CRA to issue the Letter of Authority for the following year.  Please note that filing the T1213 is not mandatory, and if not completed, the pay withholdings should not be reduced and the employee may get a refund accordingly when they file their return with a T1223 Clergy Residence Deduction form.

Accessibility Act (Manitoba)
The Province of Manitoba is requiring that non-profit organizations fulfill the Accessibility Standard in customer service by November 1, 2018. MNO Synod and Diocese of Rupert's Land are looking at making a learning event available in early-2018, with follow-up resources available afterwards. Please look into it for your local congregation - see their website.
