Accessibility Act (Manitoba)
The Province of Manitoba is requiring that non-profit organizations fulfill the Accessibility Standard in customer service by November 1, 2018. MNO Synod and Diocese of Rupert's Land are looking at making a learning event available in Spring, 2018, with follow-up resources available afterwards. Please look into it for your local congregation - see their website.

Hold in Prayer

Please pray for Pastor Terry Gudmundson and family as they mourn the loss of his father, Earl Gudmundson on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Weeks earlier Pastor Terry mourned the loss of his mother, so the  family is grieving deeply at this time. We pray for God's healing hand and ever presence among them.

We received word that Retired National Bishop Telmor Sartison was hospitalized in Edmonton following a heart attack. He is recovering well. We pray for his spouse Adelene and family, and especially remember  his family members who serve here in the MNO Synod and Diocese of Ruperts Land, Rev. Paul Sartison at Epiphany Lutheran, Winnipeg and Rev. Val From at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican parish, Winnipeg.

Mission as Hope Appeal
Since this annual appeal began in 2009, it has allowed us to continue funding ongoing mission in our Synod, ministries like Luther Village, Lutheran Urban Ministry, Youth and Young Adult Programming and Cameroon visits.
Perhaps even more significantly, it has provided resources to do some new things in our Synod each year, which would have not been possible with the regular benevolence dollars.
Please find further information, including letter to congregations and bulletin inserts, here.

Nominees needed for Lay and Youth Delegates to the next National Convention
As we look towards a Synod Convention in April, 2018, we need to look beyond that to the National Convention that will take place July 11-13, 2019 in Regina, SK.

We are still looking for nominations for lay delegates from eligible congregations. For a full list of eligible congregations please refer to pages 130-132 of the Bulletin of Reports.  Nominations can be completed using this online form.
Note that to be eligible to be a lay delegate nominee on the ballot, your congregation must not have sent a lay delegate to the previous National Convention (2017).
If your congregation is eligible, individuals need to be nominated either a) by church council motion; b) by congregation's AGM motion; or, c) by ten (10) members of MNO congregations.

ELCIC - Faith Order and Doctrine
In May 2015, the ELCIC's National Church Council (NCC) directed the Faith, Order and Doctrine Committee (FOD) to study orders of ministry with particular attention to diakonia and Diaconal Ministry. FOD surveyed recent and historic literature, consulted ELCIC scholars, spent a day with our diaconal ministers, and in 2016 released a study guide entitled To Love Our Neighbour as Ourselves: A Study of Orders of Ministry in the ELCIC. Since then, FOD has considered responses and has now produced a paper which builds upon its earlier work. It is called Public Ministry in the ELCIC - A Preliminary Draft will be available on their website.
