POSTPONED – Indigenous Immersion Awareness Tour
August 12 @ 8:00 am - 8:30 am
Pictured: Pastor Tyler Gingrich (Assistant to the Bishop, MNO Synod) and Edwin Beardy (Tetaskweyak Cree Nation); and Bishop Larry Beardy (Northern Manitoba Area Mission) and Bishop Jason Zinko (MNO Synod)
In 2016, MNO organized a Northern Manitoba Justice and Reconciliation Tour (click here for the story); while there is a desire to continue that relationship, and build on connections made, the plan for 2019 is being POSTPONED.
Previous information circulated (included here for future plans):
This is an opportunity for Lutherans in southern Manitoba to connect with Indigenous Anglicans in northern Manitoba. While this is an inter-generational experience, we’re looking forward to young people connecting in 2019, and initiating new friendships between the north and the south. Consider joining in this Indigenous Immersion Awareness Tour!
Why have an Indigenous Immersion Awareness Tour?
-to engage young people of MNO Synod and young people of Tetaskweyak.
-to address the Calls to Action of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, particularly Calls to Action #59 (about learning about past wrongs, and colonization) and #61 (creating opportunities for education and relationship-building and dialogue about Indigenous spirituality)
-to create connections for future travel opportunities between south and north
-to create prayer partners, and develop a caring relationship so we might journey in each other’s experiences of life in these different regions of Manitoba.
-and, mostly: to form relationships and friendships between north and south
-take a road trip north for about 11 hours to the remote community of Split Lake!
-join in life, and tour around, for a week
-see how Hydro dams have affected life for the Tetaskweyak Cree Nation
-experience a worship service in the Anglican community, there
-go to a Gospel Jamboree
-learn about culture in the Tetaskweyak Cree Nation
-and, of course, meet new people and make new friends!
Please contact Pastor Tyler Gingrich for more information about this trip, and to join in! Participation is limited.
