2023-01-12T14:00:01-06:00

Beginning Jan 14, Bishop Jason, along with all of the ELCIC bishops, will be embarking on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This pilgrimage is a time for prayer, reflection, learning, and worship. It is an opportunity for Bishop Jason to connect on a deeper level with the life and ministry of Jesus, and the story of God in lives, by walking where Jesus walked. During this time the bishops will visit some of the work of the Lutheran World Federation in the region and visit some ministries of our partners, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land [...]

A group of 8 leaders representing 3 congregations recently completed the 7-week Small Group Ministry Leader Training led by Bishop Jason and Deacon Michelle.  This training equips participants to lead small groups with attention to discipleship, group dynamics, and leadership development.  Small groups have proven to deepen faith, strengthen relationships, and broaden congregational engagement. Since the MNO Synod Small Group Leaders Training pilot project began in [...]

Pr. Jeanne Fomgbami Visits Winnipeg from Cameroon

2022-11-16T14:10:59-06:00

Submitted by Pr. Katharine Bergbusch for the Global Mission Committee Pastor Jeanne Fomgbami of our companion Lutheran church in Cameroon (EELC) was in Winnipeg this fall to visit family.  Since living in Winnipeg for three years with her husband Etienne and family in the early 2000's, Pr. Fomgbami has studied theology in Nigeria and was ordained by the EELC. While here, she was invited to preach and lead worship at Messiah Lutheran Church.  The scripture reading for the sermon was about the cost of discipleship.  Her message was clear, biblical and straightforward.  While members of the synod's Global Mission Committee met with her over [...]

Synod Youth Create Worship Banner

2022-10-12T12:25:25-05:00

As part of the Thanksgiving Retreat, youth learn and explore different aspects of worship as part of planning and preparing for Sunday morning worship.  This year, that included reflecting on and adding to a worship banner that expresses the upcoming theme for CLAY: “Ashes & Embers”.  This banner will be part of upcoming synod youth worship services in this year leading up to CLAY. Whether a congregation has youth attending CLAY or not, this banner can serve as an invitation to congregations to pray for youth and young adults in our church and the world–that they, like Moses, would have experiences [...]

Lutherans and Anglicans joined together in Winnipeg on Sunday, June 5 to walk together in the Winnipeg Pride Parade.  The group emphasized the love that God has for all people, and walked together as a sign and celebration of the diversity and unity we have in the body of Christ.  Participating in the Pride Parade is one way the MNO Synod lives into the commitment to work for reconciliation and social justice.  To learn more about how you or your congregation can increase welcome to the 2SLGBTQIA++ community, contact the synod office.

The MNO Synod commemorates the Day of the African Child on June 16, 2022 to accompany our Lutheran partners in Cameroon, especially with KIC--Kids in Cameroon.  This year's theme is "Right to participate:let children be seen and heard."  Good nutrition and education enable children to participate and contribute to community life.  Funding from MNO Synod provides food products and school supplies for the orphans of KIC, who are guided by social worker, Madame Fanta Gaknone.
