World AIDS Day

Dec. 1 is a day set apart to pray for and raise awareness for those impacted by HIV/AIDS.  The World Council of Churches provides a service of prayer for this day: https://www.oikoumene.org/resources/documents/world-aids-day-2022-order-of-prayer. We especially use this day to pray for the children and adults who are part of the Kids in Cameroon program in our global companion church in Cameroon. Campus Advent Service–UofM

Join students and others from the UofM community in a brief service of Advent/Christmas carols and readings, co-ordinated by UofM Spiritual Care chaplains and hosted at St. John's College. Open to University of Manitoba students, staff and faculty. Refreshments provided.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The 2023 theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, chosen by the Minnesota Council of Churches (USA), is "Do good; seek justice." Based on Isaiah 12:1-17, the international theme and materials call Christians to recognize that the divisions between our churches and confessions cannot be separated from the divisions within the wider human family. Global Mission Sunday

This is a Sunday set apart by the ELCIC for intentional learning and prayer for the global church--especially our global companion relationships.  The MNO Synod has a global companion relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon.  Resources are provided by the ELCIC for congregations to use during worship on this or any other Sunday with an intentional focus on global companions.   The MNO Synod Global Companion Committee especially invites congregations to include the church in Cameroon in your prayers on the Sunday closest to Feb. 11, which is Youth Day in Cameroon.

Area Synod Youth Service–intergenerational fun day

The next area synod youth event will be on Sunday, March 12, from 4:00-6:00 at Faith Lutheran Church in Winnipeg.  The first hour will be games that are organized and led by youth, followed by a time of worship led by Prairie Fire. This event will be an intergenerational/family event...children and their adults are invited/welcome to attend.  Older adults who care about youth but maybe no longer have youth of their own are also welcome to attend. Easter Vigil Service–St. John’s College

With the Diocese of Ruperts Land, St. John's College is hosting an Easter Vigil service on Saturday, April 8 at 4:30, which will include the baptism and confirmation of two St. John's College students. The Daily Bread will provide a reception following the service. Area Synod Youth Service and CLAY information meeting

This month's youth service will include an information meeting for leaders going to CLAY and/or the MNO Synod bus trip.  Location: Messiah Lutheran Church (400 Rouge Rd, Winnipeg). Agenda: Worship (4:00) led by Prairie Fire, followed by food (Suggested $5 donation for food) and fun for youth while leaders meet for an information meeting.

MNO Synod Youth Service

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 106 Sawchuck St, St. Andrews, Manitoba, Canada

Kick off the 2023-2024 school year with a climate care service with youth (grade 7-12) from Winnipeg and surrounding areas. This service will centre on the theme of caring for creation, and will include an advocacy action of folding paper (origami-style) into simple shapes representing various endangered animals.  Instructions will be provided.  Surrounded by readings, prayers and music, write your commitments and concerns related to the climate on a paper and fold it into a simple shape representing an endangered species (instructions provided. No experience required) to be sent to decision makers as advocacy and action.

Campus Ministry–Taize Service at St. John’s College

A brief service in the style of Taize for University of Manitoba students, staff, and faculty.  Co-ordinated by St. John's College and St. Paul's College. Held in the St. John's College Chapel.
